Steak with Onion-Bleu Cheese Sauce

My fiancé and I made this delicious meal a few days ago. We first tried the onion-bleu cheese sauce at a friends house and it was delicious. I know of a few other people who've made it too and knew that I needed to make it when we bought these steaks! It doesn't take much time to make and tastes divine. This recipe comes from PW's site.

Makes 2 servings.
Prep and cook time: 20 minutes

Here's what you'll need:
  • 2 steaks, seasoned/marinated to your liking (we used sirloin)
  • 4 T (1/2 stick) butter
  • 1 large onion (yellow or white)
  • 1 c heavy cream
  • 1/2 c bleu cheese, crumbled
  • grill or something to cook your steak on
  • large skillet
Feel free to skip past the picture demonstration to get straight to the listed directions.

Go ahead and fire up the grill. Then lop off each end of the onion. Remove the outer layer.

Slice the onion in half from root to tip. Place each half flat side down and cut the onion into relatively thick slices.

Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add 4 T butter and the onion slices to the skillet.

Cook on high for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until dark and caramelized.

Stir in 1 c of heavy cream.

Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the liquid has reduced by half.

Add in the crumbled bleu cheese. Stir until melted.

Remove the steak from the grill. At this point you can spoon half the onion-bleu cheese sauce over the top of the steak, or you can spoon it onto a plate and place the steak on top. I prefer serving mine over the top!

Serve with a delicious veggie or starch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 steaks, seasoned/marinated to your liking (we used sirloin)
  • 4 T (1/2 stick) butter
  • 1 large onion (yellow or white)
  • 1 c heavy cream
  • 1/2 c bleu cheese, crumbled
Directions:
  1. Fire up the grill and get the steaks ready!
  2. Lop off the ends of the onion. Remove the outer layer and then cut the onion in half from root to tip. Begin slicing the onion into semi thick slices. Pop those steaks on the grill!
  3. Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add the butter and sliced onion to the skillet.  Cook on high for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until dark and caramelized. Add the heavy cream to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the liquid has reduced by half. Stir in the bleu cheese crumbles until melted.
  4. Remove the steaks from the grill. At this point you can spoon half the onion-bleu cheese sauce on top of the steak or serve it beneath the steak.
